Has anyone got one of these kits or something similar?

I'm consistently using the bounce-card on my 580EX and setting its on a completely straight angle to get nice tonal values on portraits, but I find I'm wasting a lot of the power...

Without a diffuser on can I set this on a 90 degree angle (or 0 degrees as marked on the flash) and obtain the same, if not better results?

That card is only for catchlights - you're burning power for nothing. Get yourself a stofen or lumiquest soft box

The best on camera flash diffuser I've yet seen is the Fong Lightsphere. It's more money but I think it's really impressive.

:agree: I have a Stofen Omni Bounce - use it all the time as it gives a softer light.

There's some example interior shots with the Fong Lightsphere in this thread. (Page 2)

A tad too expensive CT, but it looks like a worthy investment for the future, I think I'll have an omni-bounce kit for the time being, bookmarked though! Thanks

Can't beat the lightsphere

I actually used a soft glow to overexpose part of this image.

The omni bounce looks OK for the money and should get you a result.

Cheers CT,

I mean the bounce-card built into the flash has served me well, even if it has eaten up the batteries a bit faster than it could've done.

On fredmiranda fong gets a slating, one for breaking the 580 and other posters that say it's a rip off.

Have you looked at www.abetterbouncecard.com? I've got some, seem good, got a christening on the 18th so will post some results after then if interested.

I've got the white omni cover and like it, use it quite a lot and it's lasted a couple of years.

HTH,
Carl.

It is a rip off for what it is. A bit of plastic. But it works. Caesura, cute girl but look at the burnt out cheecks and contrast of direct flash compared to a soft diffused light from a lightsphere. Speaks for itself.

I have a sto-fen omnibounce too but I prerer the LSII by far.

Well you'll always get the nay sayers, and I think it's the price which is resented by most.

Seriously, have a look at the last of my 3 interior shots in the link above and see how, even though the fong was directed straight up to the ceiling it's still illuminated underneath the furniture! I'd have loved one of these when I was dong weddings.
