I have just been going through my old camera gear and was wondering what to do with all my Olympus OM lenses. I didnt realise until reading these forums that I could get an adapter that would allow me to use them on my Canon 40d.

I have seen some adapters on ebay but I am a bit confused as some are described as AF confirm. My question is what does this mean as I understood that these lenses would have to be manually focused?

Any recommendation on a particular type of adapter and or supplier?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I use OM lenses on my 5D although frankly I'm using my OM lenses on my OM2n and OM4T more now - I don't actually have any AF lenses anymore!

I use adapters off ebay, they work fine for me.

AF confirm means that you manually focus and when they hit the focus point (lets say you have selected centre AF point) it will light up to show you that that point is in focus.

It is quite inaccurate though, it will just put you in the ballpark and then you have to fine-tune from there. I would think the VF size of the 40D isn't ideal for MF.

I would not bother with AF confirm as they can be inacurate as said above. Just use live view and zoom in using the buttons top right, the ones you use to zoom into images on play back. Then all you need to do is focus where you want and take the shot.

That would be fine for landscape shots but for everyday shots I would still recommend getting AF confirm - it doesn't cost any more for an adapter with AF confirm and especially on a VF like that on a 40D I would think it would be some useful help.

I would also recommend getting the super precision matte screen for your 40D to aid you if you intend on using MF lenses a lot - however be aware that any lenses slower than 5.6 will darken your VF.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I will try an adapter with the emf chip and use live view for focusing. You guys certainly know your stuff!
