Olympus T20 and T32 flashes Mains Unit

In the Olympus OM film gear I have been given lately in a 'Mains Unit; to run Olympus Flashes , but when I plug it into a T20 nothing happens -- it does not charge up the flash . Do I have to have the flash switch to 'OFF' or 'ON' as then maybe it will activate the Batteries ? Anyone know -- ( by the way-- still hoping to get a Mains Unit for Mecablitz 45 series )

YO !! I found out that to work it you take OUT the Batteries and set switch to 'ON' then it charges up the flashes and works !
