Yes
I went to lunch with a couple of friends today and, of course, my new Olympus E-M5 came along too. I took this picture to test for myself the high ISO capabilities of the camera. Considering it was hand held, 1/15th sec @ f4.8, ISO 6400 with no noise filter, I think it did pretty well. I've printed it at A4 and although it is not the same quality you would get from ISO 400 or less it is nevertheless more than acceptible in my opinion.

That looks good to me.

I gather you're happy with the camera?

Thanks Alan. Yes, rather! It's still a novelty for me at the moment but already I'm getting the feeling that it's going to quickly become one of my all time favourites. :)

It looks rather good for iso 6400,

I was in Jessops today looking at some camera bags and happened to check the e-m5, must admit its looks beautiful, very well built and looking at your image, it seems like it does the job too

Bout time the m4/3 range got a decent sensor it deserves. OM-D has a Sony sensor in it. Very good in deed.

Handles it very nicely. But why f/4.8 @ 1/15? If you'd shot at 2.8 you could have used 1/60 or so, blurring the backdrop better. I realise it was only a tester, of course, but still.

Because its not a 2.8 lens. Probably wide open at that focal length.

Yeah, thought of that after posting. But with a nice camera, you need 2.8 glass ;)

They have had decent sensors, not perfect. I've had some amazing shots from a G3, it's easy to focus on the tech specs and disregard a camera, but when you actually use one for a decent length of time it's magical :)

I agree, but one step at a time for me - I'm having to sell just about everything to pay for the camera! For a while I will "make do" with my Panasonic 14-45mm but later add some fast primes, such as the 45mm f1.8. :)

Yes, the Sony sensor is a big step forward for Olympus, but the latest Panasonic sensors are excellent, too. At the moment there is a small gap in favour of Olympus, but not by much and the forthcoming Panasonic GH3 is expected to have a new sensor that will close the gap again. Exciting times!

Owning both a G5 and OM-D the sensor difference is slight, the big difference is in the rest of the functions, but depending on what you shoot that may not be that big either.
