Olympus 35 SP - Liquid in Battery Compartment

Hi All,

I have opened the Olympus 35 SP battery compartment, there is a 625 battery in it, but on the face the connects with the camera, I found some clear gel type substance on it. There is no corrosion in the battery compartment.

I don't think it is the original 625 mercury battery, it looks too new, so it must be a modern equivalent.

My concern is the fact that it has this gel like substance in it. I assume I should change the battery and wipe the compartment.

if it's a silver oxide battery the leaking liquid is fairly unpleasant stuff... have a quick look here under Warnings-Handling.
