I'm not sure if the is the right place to post this question, as its my first post since joining. I'm in need of a bit of info and maybe the Talk Photography masses may be able to help.

I'm an ex-pat returning to Blighty to watch the Paralympics. My daughter will be playing wheelchair basketball for Australia:naughty: and I'd like to take some photos whilst in the venues.
Now here's the 64 million dollar question, is there a limit on lens length or cameras. I have looked at the ticketing website and on the list of prohibited items is large cameras, inc tripods. I plan on taking my D90 with a 70-300 lens. I don't want to get to the door and told you can't bring that in here!:bat:

Has anyone been to the Olympic venues, especially Basketball Arena and North Greenwich Arena, and did you encounter any issues?

Many thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,

Take a look at this link: Prohibited and Restricted Items on what you can and can't take in. You chould be OK with photographic equipment so long as it is under 30cm in length. Probably worth printing this off and taking it with you in case you have any probs at entry. From the TV footage I've seen over the last couple of weeks, there are plenty of people there with DSLRs.

Would have thought you'd be OK with a D90. Turn up with a D4 and a 70-200m f2.8 and you may have probs though ;)

Am off to the Paralympics myself but taking my Lumix G3 with me rather than my D300 but only because I can't be bothered lumping the DSLR round with me all day.

Hope that helps.

John

Hi Chris,

Take a look at this thread ...

The latter posts are what you need to concentrate on.

I took my 7D and 100-400 into the Olympic park, and on into the stadium and BB arena, with no trouble at all.

Once inside the park, you don't get searched again.

I assume security for the paralympic games will have the same "common-sense" approach.

I can't comment on the rules for the North Greenwich Arena.

Dave.

congrats on your daughter being in the paralympics.
I hopefully will be seeing some b-ball

Hi Peeps

Thanks for the input, I feel quite happy with taking my gear in now!

Sorry to butt in but is the concensus that a 7d with a Canon 70-200 F2.8L be ok?

Assuming you're talking about entering the Olympic Park, and assuming the same security policies are in place for the Paralympics as were in for the Olympics, then I wouldn't be concerned at all about taking a 7d and 70-200.

Dave.

Thanks...I was actually thinking of the Equestrian at Greenwich but I assume that the same policies apply. That combo falls below the 300mm length so I thought it would be ok.

I think you would be fine at most locations - the people working are not bothered!
