Hi all, am new to the group (thanks Nigel). i am a computer thicky!
I have hundreds of old style photos all 6 x 4 size, i want to scan them (i don't have the negatives) to my macbook, whats the easiest way and how. i have an old HP scanner, i am looking for a cheap new scanner to do the job.
i look forward to your replies.

That's a question. Ten years ago I could have suggested a number of flatbed scanners that would have done a reasonable job, but not cheap ones. In these days of digital photography scanners have taken very much a back seat, mostly doing general stuff such as text etc. There are still a number of specialist slide scanners being sold, but that's not going to help you.

You say that you have an old HP scanner. First questions would be how old, and what exactly is the problem with it?

If you're really set on getting a new scanner then something from the canon range would be cheap and reasonable, but in reality if you want quality scans then try to find somebody in your area that's still offering drum scanning services. However expense will be a problem there, with one drum scan probably costing the same if not more than a new flatbed scanner.

It's difficult for me to recommend anything further as I've been out of the scanning game for quite a while now. Hopefully somebody will come along with a bit more current knowledge.

Edit: Welcome to the forum by the way.
