Hey guys,

I've been trying to find out what old nikon d type lenses are worth purchasing for the D7100. Struggling to work out what to get and confused.
I like the thought of using an old school lens but also attracted by reduced price.

Ideally I'm looking for something between 10-20mm?

An improved longer focal length on my tamron 70-300 would be great to.

Thanks,

Joseph.

I think you might be out of luck if you want and old lens less that 20mm or over 300mm. Let alone one that is both good and cheap.

Are you after af or manual?

I've got a selection of older af and ai lenses that I use when I want something a bit different (generally on my D300 in manual mode). But about the only one that gets used on my D7100 is the 35mm f2 af.

edit: sorry, just realised you said D lenses. I guess af then?

Yes AF. But would happily use manual.

Just looking for something older to shoot with.

It is really going to depend what you want to get from it then. Any of the older lenses are worth a play if you just want something a bit different. I went through a phase of buying stuff I could get cheap and now have about 5 or 6 old lenses but most of them just sit on the shelf gathering dust. Nothing wrong with them just that a 17-55 2.8, 35 f2, 50 f1.8 and 70-300 do 99% of what I need.

Well I have a D7100 and also full frame kit so I'm not averse to using my Sigma 14mm f2.8, Nikon 20mm and 24mm f2.8d's or 35mm f2 on it. Obviously the effective focal length changes (1.5x) but the lenses work perfectly as they did on my old D300. Also use a Sigma 18=50mm f2.8, again from the D era. A nice match for the D7100 capability though is the Nikon 17-55mm which I think is worth having if a little obtrusive.
