Unearthed an old Jobo GIGA one external drive that has not been powered up for years. The power light comes on when the 5v adapter is plugged in but no action from the disc.

Anyone know of any data recovery companies who might be able to help?

Thanks,

GC

Thanks @Sky and @gramps

Was hoping it would be under £100!

Had some shots from a trip to Japan and Taiwan in 2007 on it but I've got the better ones backed up elsewhere, just wanted to see what I could get putting them through current LR.

As always it depends on the value of the data on the drive. Professional Recovery on a 1Tb drive is likely to cost £500-£1000.
If the value of data is low and its a nothing or bust decision it may be worth stripping the bare drive out of the casing and mounting it into a Desktop yourself. Old disks often suffer from 'stiction' were the motor does not have sufficient inertia to spin the disk, holding the bare drive and gently twisting fast to shock the drive to spin may work BUT as I say its a go for broke solution.

Thanks @Compuwight

I'll try stripping it out and see how I get on!

You need to do this immediately after applying the power; spin-up is monitored and if the drive gets feedback telling it things aren't rotating, it'll cut power to the motor after a couple of seconds.

I had a similar problem once with a drive at work. While I was waiting for the IT crowd to fit a new drive I used to take the drive out of the computer, spin it in my hand a few times, plug it back in and power up. It survived 4 mornings of that before I got a new drive!
