Quick question.
I have a bag full of old film rolls that were shot probably 10- 15 years ago.
I have no idea what is on them but would love to get them developed, as I am sure they will be from holidays that I have forgotten.
Can I still get them printed? Any idea where? Do most places still offer film printing?
Thanks for any assistance and advice.
Cheers

If they have been kept in the dark they may be ok. A few places still do film. Depends on how valuable you think they might be as to whether you take your chances with a cheapo supermarket processor or send them to a pro lab which may be able to rescue them better.

have a chat with PhotoExpress - most helpful when i started film again

There are still plenty of labs around, but less choice as obviously most people have migrated to digital. The pictures will probably be okay - there's people who have developed far older rolls who have gotten usable results. Are they colour or black & white?

my brother developed some pics he had on an old roll a few years back, a couple of them leeched onto each other giving some strange (pre photoshop) effects

I remember looking at that site quite a while ago... strangely thought provoking.

Anyway, my local supermarket (ASDA) does film.

Thank you to everyone for you advice, comments and links.
These films have been in a box for so long and i was about to chuck them thinking they were no good.
So glad you could all help. I think I have found what I was looking for.
I will let you all know what was on them. They were taken by my late father who was an amateur photographer just like me, but ultimately it's what the pictures represent.
Cheers

on a rare find like these [ fathers film] I would NOT trust ASDA

i am aware some here have had perfectly good results

but my Tesco completely ruined the first 2 rolls when i first got back into film..

i would use a pro lab in this instance

Agreed - the (potential) images on these rolls far outweigh monetary value - definitely get 'em to a decent lab, preferably one you can talk to and explain that they're old films, and potentially of great sentimental value...

Have a look in the thread mentioned above, and find one that you're happy to entrust your memories to!

Saying that you wouldn't trust ASDA does seem like a bit of a sweeping statement but no matter as there are other people that can do it and they're not difficult to find. Maybe a pro lab will deal with you.

Actually, the falling quality of processing (but not any damage to negs, I've never had negs damaged by anyone) is what drove me to digital in the first place but since briefly returning to film more recently I have to say that my local ASDA always give a first class service and what's more, if you're lucky, you can stand and watch your film being processed.

I'm happy you've found somewhere that are good, Alan, but I think it's pretty fair to say that the one thing lacking with supermarket processing is consistency - both from one outlet to another, and indeed one operator from another in the same establishment - or even from day to day as certain places push the chemicals a little beyond spec.

Short of the OP finding whichever Asda "Up North" that you use, and travelling there from Redditch, sadly, it's difficult to recommend ANY supermarket outlet for a demanding job - whereas there are lots of people who have used, and would be happy to recommend - for example - Peak Imaging or Genie Imaging...

Alan...you've missed the point of my statement [maybe..:D]

i HAD 2 rolls completely screwed by Tesco supermarket

but nothing lost - except my hopes and time - as the scenery was still there..

these rolls under discussion are frankly IRREPLACEABLE and need to be treated as such

after the Tesco fiasco i now get all my colour and B&W developed by PhotoExpress ... well please with their turn-around time/scan to CD/price

BTW - i sent my latest B&W negative strips to a super helpful Mod here, [you know who you are....] who scanned them for me to show what a good scanner at home could do. The result was indeed better than the commercial scan - but it's all down to the price of buying a scanner myself and having the time to scan 36 images

regards....john

Doesn't take long, my last roll only took 4 hours  (Scan dust spot removal, scratch removal, resize and post to flickr for 28 shots)
