Oktoberfest - Prime Lens Challenge

Can we use TC`s on the long primes?

Righto - I'll give this a go.

My rules:

- All with a 50mm
- Absolutely no cropping of the final presented image
- Minimum 3 images a week
- Will get round to posting crit on at least three other images per week too
(Edit - do folks want crit?)

I really want to stop cropping my prime lens shots, so am looking to improve composition in-camera rather than post production.

Ian.

Nice one Ian, I too like the no cropping rule. Can't wait to see how you get on :)

Okay, I am definitely on for this. Here are my rules:

  • At least 3 shots per week, but probably more.
  • All will be taken with my 60mm macro (my only prime).
  • Sorry, but I reserve the right to use an extension tube or Raynox, if I think it appropriate. (Still uses the prime, just with a bit of help).

Looking forward to it!

Jenny

Starts tomorrow great, tempted to use a prime on the Scott Kelby Photo Walk on Sunday too ;)

Hmm...only just seen this and co-incides nicely with my current thinking that I dont do enough pictures for ME these days, its nearly all work. So....

1 - 50mm f1.4 on D700 [its a lens on loan to me atm, only other prime is a slightly dodgy 28mm, which I will resort to should owner of 50mm need it back during the month]
2 - Minimum post once a week, ideal number 3, would love to try for daily.
3 - Will have to have event passes I am afraid, too many jobs booked and a 50mm just won't cut it

Now then, who is available to send me a text on a regular basis to remind me?

Isn't the Oktoberfest mostly in September?

Never mind that, it's beer-related. I'll have a go at this. Shooting on a 24mm-ish lens on a 1.6 crop. Wide open. Every day. Maybe I'll even shoot RAW, too.

Probably won't post every day, though. Will upload bursts. Trying for shorter, punchier sentences in my on-line posts, too.

Good to have you aboard Yv :) Don't worry, I'll be on your case with a regular PM! Either that or I'll report you for not posting.....wait, that won't work will it?

Excellent! What lens exactly are you using?

I'm in. And have opened up my thread already tonight. Missing photos though! :(

Would cropping in pp be against the spirit of this?

'sup to you!

Personally, I've added a "no crop" rule to mine to make sure I concentrate on composition.

Your mileage may vary though :)

Ian.

Is it too late to join in with this ?

Only got a Tamron 90 macro so guessing it's gonna be lots of ickle things

Seeing as you've set the main rule ( prime lens only ) the only rule I'll add is to shot as often as I can...camera will have to go to work with me( not sure the boss'll like that !) But will upload 3 a week ( possibly all shot on the same day though )
Need to get to grips with the macro & this'll give me the push I need

Added! Looking forward to your shots Lynne :)

I think the challenge is just going to be keeping up with everyone's challenges! We seem to have taken over that forum.
Mine still to come....

Well I repaired the LX yesterday and loaded it with Ektar and slapped the fifty on earlier, Now all I need is a flash of inspiration! (Ironically I'm editing wedding shots right now taken with that combo but taken a week too early!)

I failed my first week, no shots. Was setup in the middle of the road earlier waiting for the light to reappear, but it didn't and I had to go to work.

ok sorry guys, really lost my mojo with this....(to coin a phrase!) not keen to continue tbh...think i am going to concentrate on something else for a while...sorry...will still look at all your wonderful images and comment away...

Thank you Mr Kiddle for suggesting this wonderful idea.... I found it really challenging and inspiring...

I've only just had my film back and it's not looking good so far. will upload the results eventually!

Zooms? Oh yeah, I remember them!

I'm sorry, I failed somewhat miserably. October turned out somewhat busier then expected which meant I took a grand total of 2 photos on a personal basis ;(
