Edit My Images
No
I have been reading the site over the past few months since joining just to see what people were saying on certain subjects that interested me. The one thing that I'm not clear on is image editing.

I understand that a RAW file is a "what you see what you get" style of sensory information, but what I'm not clear on is how to get it to a printable standard. I'm using the image editing software that came with my Sony a300 and after fiddling about with a few pics (sharpness, contrast etc) am I right in believing that this is all thats needed to get my pictures to a printable standard?

I was also wondering if anyone can explain the difference bewtween photoshop CS3 and CS4.

Thankyou :)

first off, you shouldn't really HAVE to do anything to get your images to a printable standard.. RAW is there to perfect your images, or in my case, set your style.
I'd say a jpeg is more a 'what you see is what you get' image, the RAW file gives you the opportunity to play with exposure and 'rescue' some files if you poorly judged exposure.

difference between the 2 PS's, no idea,, I've only used CS, CS2 and CS3.. :D

There is no such thing as 'what you see is what you get' with photography. Unless you only have one eye of course!

But Louise is correct in saying RAW files enable you to tweak your pictures without being too destructive. Whether a bit of levelling and sharpenning is enough to make you pictures printable really depends on how good your photography is to begin with.

Ahh, ok. I think I will just shoot in RAW then. Thats really cleared things up for me, thanks guys.
