This is a weird one. A few months back a guy added me to MSN. He was from Italy. He'd been all over the place sticking these little "Oh, no! John!" stickers around. One was in Liverpool. I took a photo cos it looked fun. I had no idea what it was. Now that photo has appeared in an Italian newspaper and I'm apparently a famous BBC photographer.

A rough translation is ...

oh, no! john! il celebre adesivo che sta incuriosendo tutti ha conquistato anche il famoso fotografo della BBC Pete Carr (www.petemc.net) che lo ha inserito nella sua collezione di immagini.

Intanto il marchio che pare sia legato a Firenze, sta facendo il giro del mondo e si prepara a ritornare con qualche novita. Dopo le magliette andate a ruba da Gerard, tutte inserite in copertine per dischi in vinle che richiamavano gli Lp dgli anni Settanta, questo Natale dovrebbero arrivare due nuove copertine che ricorderanno gli album degli anni Ottanta.
E mentre il mistero della scritta tiene banco nei forum di discussione su internet, i duo ideatori del marchio continuano a sfornare idee.

Now the tricky thing is I'm not sure when this was printed. If it was after August 06 then I would have switched to Wordpress and I wouldn't have a Creative commons license on my site. If it was before then I probably would have, but I doubt they'd have read it. They cropped out my watermark on this photo. Not really sure what to do. Should I go after them or just enjoy being a famous BBC photographer in Florence? :D
 
whilst international fame (!) is no bad thing image theft is image theft what ever counrty you're in. chap on another forum got a chunk of money thanks to a pikey in the netherlands ripping off one of his images - got himself a new dSLR with the money ...send them an email and put it to them. if they get arsey I'm sure there's lots of people here that could offer you advice, legally speaking of course.
another aspect of it is they deliberately edited your art - a big No in my book. quote infringement of copyright act 1988 at them - I'll have to dig it out to remind myself which section it is - and see what happens. it applies since the UK was the point of origin, regardless of end/output location.
only way these people will learn is making them learn its not acceptable.
 
i think we need an italian speker to translate that into english, not whatever language babelfish spat out for a start...

sue his ass pete, its good practice for the mofos who dont pay up...

Is it worth the effort and strain when as Brains says you might as well post it on your own site?
 
lol is it good or bad being linked to the bbc, il let you decide that one. I recon its all a bit of fun, and some column has picked up on it and given a great big link to your picture and site. do you have site stats? i wonder how many italians have visited your site

I'm inclined to agree. It'll be a lot of hassle trying to sort it with the language barrier, distance and everything. They did credit me, and they put a link in. The story was picked up by a few papers over there and the guy was amazed that he was talking to me. Very bizarre :)
 
Might be worth a friendly email and suggested fee. They can only say no.
 
Credit yourself on your site......

The funny thing is that it wasn't even a HDR shot! It was on film too. ;)

Do you know what the newspaper is? I can't recognize it. It look more like a magazine than a newspaper. It doesn't seem to me to be La Repubblica or Corriere della Sera, but I could be wrong.
As the other people suggested, I would write them an email and see what they reply :)
 
"IL CORRIERE".

Il Corriere could be "Il Corriere della Sera" the main italian newspaper (more or less like "The Times" in UK) but there are many local "Corriere" like for example "Il Corriere di Firenze". At this link you can see how many "Corriere" you can find just in Tuscany:

Thanks :) If it is the Italian equivalent of the Times I will certainly be hitting them up for some cash.
