yeah... why not

punches above my weight but for the sake of £35 quid i cant really turn it down!

yes i will get a less good lens but im looking for something wider anyway and yes ill loose my grip but i can replace that another day

It depends what you want from it really. I don't see much point in the upgrade, as the image quality will probably be better with the 50D and 50mm, rather than putting a cheapo kit lens in front of a very demanding sensor.

So, what's your reason for upgrading, and would a 7D and kit lens do whatever your current kit can't?

Chris

i want to rid my 50mm as i need something shorter and more versatile and i dont need the 1.4 lighting .. i want wireless ettl so was going to buy a 580 or a ste2 .. this means i dont need to buy the new speedlight or ste2

Well since you bought your first camera youve been wanting to upgrade because it wasnt good enough. Then you wanted a low light lens and bought the 50mm f/1.4. You bought the 50D, but then that wasnt good enough either because of the flash issue. Then you wanted a canon speedlight but couldnt afford it, and then a wide angle lens because your 50mm was too long..

I dont think you know what you want, so just get the 7D and see how you get on with it. I'd much rather have the 50d with a 50mm 1.4 than a 7d with a kit lens, but thats me.

Just do what makes you happy.

Well, youve spent so long fretting over what equipment you have, and what you think you need, and what you should buy...

Just use what you have and take some flippin pictures!

i loved my 50 and the lens is being sold regardless its just someone basically said upgrade to a 7D for £35 .. surely its worth it lol! HD movie and wireless ettl for £35!?!

i would say pretty pointless having a camera such as a 7D without having top end glass to go with it, for me unless you have the funds to buy some pukka lenses id stick with what you have as it may only be £35 now but that will only be the start..

Just a little note.

Not sure what you valued your 50D at, but I sold mine 2 months old with 1277 actuations for £515.

Make sure you have set realistic prices for your gear before diving in.

What are you struggling to do with your 50D that makes you want the 7D ?

Do you get a warranty with the 7D?

Moving from a 50D to a 7D may involve a bit of a learning curve. Guess how I know.

yep comes with 1 year warranty my 50d has zilch

Hey Danny

I wouldn't do it. Keep your 50D, lose the stuff you don't want, and reinvest it in proper glass that you'll keep. You'll end up shooting a 7D with a kit lens, and by the time you free up enough cash for pro glass, your 7D will be an old school 3Rd generation body and worth not a lot.

And so starts the cycle again......

I hope you actually use your equipment in between all this chopping and changing and thread starting you do lol

Regards

Danny

lol .. its got about 15 pictures on it lmao but yes i try :P

If i buy the 7D i plan to buy a 24-70 2.8 sigma next month

Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 gets rave reviews mate. I know a fair few people that own one.

Repeat after me...Take more pictures....pay less attention to equipment....repeat....lol

Danny no disrespect but you actually seem worse than me with decisions ;)

Just as an example a friend of mine did all of these with a 50D and a 50mm 1.4 (and some OCF) http://fiftyoffifty.co.uk/ I really don't think you need to change one bit just get shooting! ;)

+1 for the Tammy 28-75. My copy is as sharp/sharper than my 24-70L at f2.8 and this is a wonderful lens ! BTW, you know you WILL get the 7D !

+2 I try to spend less time with this lens on my camera opting for the 50mm cos it's better right? ;) but inevitably it's the Tamron that gets the most use, really sharp lens!

Of the gear I've purchased in my fairly short photography adventure, good lenses are by far the best investment.

Each one transformed my 40D and impressed me with quality I didn't know I could get with the camera.

I bought a 5D Mk II in the summer, and although I love it, I didn't get the same 'wow' feeling I got when I used a 70-200L on my 40D for the first time.

Think about what would benefit you the most, long term :)

Hi Danny

Mine was purchased recently from MPB for just under £220 delivered. An absolute bargain !

I think he's already convinced himself he needs/wants the 7d. Once he chooses a lens, hopefully we'll see some "look at this picture" and less "what do I need/should I buy" posts..

Haha, or maybe there will be a Help, moving to Nikon thread :D

What is this B grade thing then?

Lol! Nooo

I don't WANT to sell the 50d .. But I am Thinking it's too good an offer to turn up..

I love my 50 and keep wondering if it's a mistake

The 50 1.4 just seems too hard as it's my ONLY lens and it's boring me not having a change in focal lengths

It's not that a good an offer, you've just convinced yourself it is. B grade means it's going to marked and possibly scratched. If you don't WANT to sell the 50d then dont. You'll be able to get a 7d for less than that in a few months after you've actually taken some photos with the gear you've got.

Danny's 50D and associated kit has been on sale on AVForums for an hour now, so the keen detective amongst you can probably guess the outcome ;) :D

Chris

Good on him, at least he isn't being indecisive :D

Where do they sell B Grade Canons??

i think? but if you know more please explain

Grade B refurbs are the ones that have come back broken, or cosmetically damaged, not the "ex demo" or "ex display" stuff that the Canon Outlet seem to infer that all theirs are.
