I've been having issues for years with innacurate printouts, despite using a Colormunki to calibrate my printer and display, as well as frequent banding, followed by good prints, followed by banding, etc. Yesterday however, I said to myself i'd had enough. I took out the print head, gave it a good wash with soapy water, dried it overnight, and then installed all 6 brand new cartridges.
However, i'm getting purple printouts of everything, printing this - http://www.refills4you.com/support/print/color.jpg , gives a bar of purple/blue, and light purple, rather than 3 bars of red, yellow and blue.
What does this sound like? I purchased the yellow, magenta, and photo magenta from PC World the other day, and the black cartridge a month or so ago. The blue cartridges i've had spare (in the boxes of course) for i'm pretty sure no more than 6-8 months. Could the ink be the problem? Could I have damaged the print head when cleaning it?

This is certainly the problem. It wouldn't surprise me if you hadn't destroyed the head now to be honest. Ink heads are very delicate things - you should have used a cotton wool bud with some sopropyl alcohol to help reduce any stubborn flakes.....

Without knowing the model of the printer etc - it's difficult to know if this will be a costly repair or a new printer.....
