I decided to take the lid of my Rolleiflex and give it a clean and try out a different screen. During the removal process I had to give the 4 screws a bit of gip to loosen them so I thought I would see if any of the hundreds of small screws I have would fit, one was close so I gave it a try..... The bloody thing decided to fly up and land inside the camera, not just in the main cavity but into the tiny hole that leads to the inner workings. :runaway:
So, I now own a Rolleiflex that won't focus. :grumpy: Off to the repairers it goes then.

Cheers mate.

Has Brian moved again? I still haven't sent mine to him for a CLA... If he has I'd appreciate a PM with his details too :)

Done that Suz..

Any one know what a CLA for a rolleicord would set one back?

Contact Brian Mickleboro - his prices are very reasonable and his work is the best. If the camera is otherwise fine, it shouldn't be too expensive.

I've not actually bought one yet, just thinking ahead. I've got a mild and fairly well controlled bout of GAS but....

A clean Rolleicord probably represents a good buy. I think Yashica TLRs are completely overpriced (especially the 124 and 124G), Rolleiflex prices are continuing to be buoyed by a strong Far East market, but the Rolleicord is sitting somewhere between those two. Prices have definitely risen in the past couple of years, but a Rolleicord IV or V is still a good buy. And with an overhaul from Brian, even better.

Nah, you need a nice Yashica 635 Steveo. That way you get the 6x6 goodness along with the option of shooting equally sharp 135. I've heard an excellent condition one might be heading to the classifieds soon ;0)

aye, the plan was for a V unless there was a spectacular deal on a later one. How does the Mat (no postfixes) stack up?

I might then keep my eye on the classifieds...

I had a Mat and I loved it. Stupidly knocked it off a table and now it dead.....:(

I much preferred it to the 124g I had.

Anyway, the Flex is on its way to Uncle Brian.

Funnily enough I've had a Mat and a 124G as well although I didn't kill either of them :0)

Would it be complete with the 135 insert/adaptor?

Can it take panoramas on 135 or would that need the insert to be adapted? Are extra inserts available/easy to find?

I've got the 35mm insert and associated parts which lets you shoot a normal roll of 24/36 shots in portrait format. The ground glass has the 35mm frame lines marked on it. I've never thought about shooting a panoramic. The adaptor plate has part of the transport mechanism built in so I don't think you could shoot without it to get longer frames.

The camera that proved to be my gateway drug for medium format and TLRs. The Mat has a nice bright screen (brighter than the Rolleicord models, even the later ones), although the build quality of the Mat is definitely lower than any of the Rollei models. The Mat has the same lens as the later 124/124G models, so arguably represents the best bargain out of all the Yashica TLRs. Because so many guides and recommendations refer to it as the cheap, budget way to get into TLRs, prices have definitely risen, but a good one (and some of them are approaching 60 years old so be discerning) is still a great purchase.

Cheers for the reply. It was only an idea anyway! I suppose I could always just take pans on 120 and crop to short and fat!
Is it in the classies yet? (I keep them collapsed to reduce GAS but always have the option to go in if there's something I fancy!)

I haven't put it up yet but I'm going to hold on for a little while because I'm using it as my test rig for the linked filter adaptors I'm putting together. Once I'm sorted with those I'll get it listed.

That's OK, I'm in no rush! Been deliberating over which direction to go in MF and being able (hopefully!) to play with a TLR using up some 135 rolls I have in the fridge sounds like a way to kill 2 birds!
