I'm off to Iceland tomorrow for 4 days. I am wondering which body to take out of the 1DmkIII or 7D. I just can't get both plus lenses into my camera bag! I am going on a whale watching trip so the extra reach on the 7D is tempting with my 100-400.

Whay would you take?

Iceland for 4 days ..... :shake: ... I spent an hour in Asda and that was enough :D

Sorry Andy, couldn't resist :) Anyway, that will be an awesome trip and more than just the whales, consider the landscape too! ... Get a WA lens to take as well as the 100-400 and if you really can't take both then definitely take the 1D ....

lol. I'll be able to pick up some frozen chips while I'm there.

I will be taking my 17-40 as well so got the wide angle covered.

Just looking at the size of the pile of all me gear I am thinking do I really need to take two bodies even if I can fit them in?

lol, I was gonna make a supermarket joke but too slow.

I would say take as much kit as you can. It is a pain and often I dont use a particular lens but you never know! Not a Canon man, so I may be wrong here, but is the 1d like a D3 and 7d like a D700? If so I would take the 7d as you probably wont need the additional stuff. If you took the same pic using the same lens on both cameras is there much of a difference?

So 2 for the 7D and 1 for the 1D. hmmmm still not decided.

Have a great time, i went in February and it was awesome. It was expensive to eat and drink (especially) out.

Have a look on here for some inspiration (as if you'll need it out there). I put a few of my shots on this group.

7D is more like a D300 whilst the 1DIII is nearer a D2 with 1.3x crop I believe.

Take both and take less of something else. You'll be kicking yourself if you get there and find that you're longing for the other body. Who needs clothing in Iceland anyway?

Hi from Iceland! I'm writing this from my hotel.

I took the 7D in the end because of the extra reach but mainly I still think my 7D gives sharper images than the 1D :bang: (search for my other thread on this if you are interested).

I am still very seriously considering selling both the 7D and 1D and trying to get the funds for a 1DmkIV. That body seems to have the best of both; the extra reach due to more pixels combined with the extra images and ISO performance of the 1D series. I also find the 1DmkIII screen very crappy after using the really nice one on the 7D.
