Off camera flash lead question.

I have a Nikon D40X and a Speedlite SB600. How do I use this flash off camera.

I presume I will need a special lead. What sort of lead would I need and would it have to be a Nikon lead, which I presume are quite expensive. Is there an alternative lead at a cheaper price which would work. Does anyone know where I could get one from please?

yes you will need a lead ,to retain full dedication twixt camera & flash a nikon SC 28 ( £ 50 ) or a SC 29 ( £ 60 )

or a SC 17, thats an older 1 and AFAIK can only be got secondhand

jessops do there own version of the SC 28

and you can also find copies of them on fleabay.

the difference between SC 28 & 29 ,the 29 has an AF assist light on it.

Thanks again, but I would prefer to use all the functions of the speedlite so I think I will save my pennies and get the Jessops SC28.

check to see if the d40x has slave commander mode (my d70 does) which is specifically for use with sb600 and sb800 off camera

I would imagine it probably doesent, with it being a more entry level camera
