Hi all

I've got Lencarta studio lights which I've used plently of times with no problems. Today I got a light meter so I thought I'd give it a try out. I read how to use it, set the camera on manual with a shutter speed of 160, which is the correct speed, did a test flash to get the light reading and the meter suggested f13. I set the camera aperture to f13, took a photo and the picture was completely black. I've been playing around for a couple of hours now, ignoring the light meter, and even when I set my aperture to f2.8, the pictures are very dark, even with the lighths up on full.

I then set the shutter speed to 125, took a picture and it's what I would expect - partially black, with the exposed part of the photo over exposed.

So I went outside and just took some test shots - everything is working fine outside.

So, I can only think that I've managed to change some setting on the camera which is messing up the lighting. The flash mode is on wireless, so it's not that.

Has anyone got any ideas - I'm tearing my hair out :bang:

edit: this is my opinion - someone who really knows will be along later to point and laugh.

The a200 is listed as having a sync speed of 1/160, but thats with flash on camera. As soon as you start going remote/wireless you are introducing a slight delay into the procedings.

I think that is enough to miss the strobe.

I get a similar thing on my e-1. Sync speed lists as 1/250, but on remote flash I get half a frame black (shutter in the process of closing as the stobe goes off) . slowing things donw a touch sorts it.

What are you using as a trigger? If it's not a cable, try a cable and see if it helps. Radio triggers can cause havoc when the batteries are being crap.

OK guys, thanks for your input. It is indeed the remote control that's the problem. I just took a shot of my daughter and it was perfectly exposed. I then took the same shot of her, exactly the same settings but using remote control to fire the camera, and it was black.

Problem solved - I can't use the strobes with the remote control.

So no self portraits for you lot

Flash sync on the E-1 is actually 1/180th... maybe that explains your problem?

But strangely, my own E-1 will sync at 1/320th without any problems?
