Has anyone else received something like the following - trying to figure out if spam or vaguely genuine (current thinking is spam)

Your photos are the best

Hi Ash

Sorry to be a bother about this but I just came across your photos and had to say that they are some of the best work I've seen so far. I guess one big reason is how you choose to compose your photographs which makes them stand out from the crowd. I don't know whether you've entered contests in the past or not but if not, then you definitely should. In my experience yours is the kind of photos judges look for in contests. In case you need some help with good high rewarding contests then you can take a look at these

Hipa (dubai photo fest) - DELETED

shoot and win - DELETED (this one takes a little while to load)

World photo orgainization - this has got sony and zeiss awards

The shoot and win contest has a transparent gallery so you see what others have entered already, also some of your photos are better than the ones in their gallery.

Good luck,
Frank XXXX

My thought is spam, I have a couple of notifications on Flickr:

Capture2.PNG

When you click on it, you're name is mentioned with hundreds of others to go to a link. Sadly with such a massive user base, Flickr is subject to these issues, like many others.

Be wary. I had a guy who was following me. He was always favouriting my shots and making comments about them. Went on for a couple of months. He seemed to be in Germany so no idea how he found me.
Then I got a mail from him telling me how to up my viewing figures and numbers of favourites. That didn't really bother me but I had a look out of curiosity. Figured I was safe enough as I had to visit his Flickr page. I never knowingly clicked on an outside link or downloaded anything.

BOOM. Next thing I knew I had hundreds of new images in my favourites folder and I was a member of loads of new groups. Guess what the images were, and what the groups were? Yup. Hard core porn. All pictures in his own favourites folder.

Took me ages to sort everything out. Flickr didn't want to know. No idea how he did it.

Moral is be very wary.

I got exactly the same message a couple of weeks back.so I doubt its sincere!

I get messages praising my photos on an old Flickr account that contains no images.

Definite scam stay well clear .there used to be a woman on there that re.posted shots with lots of faves on her own stream .and soaking up the praise for having taken them

The first site seems innocuous enough, and may be a genuine UAE-based photo competition site.
The second one is flagging as compromised and blacklisted, so I've taken both links down just to be on the safe side.
Don't want the bad guys to get you lot.

Yeah typical spam. Look how he has "cleverly" tried to hide the link he actually wants you to click. First he mentions two competitions that are well know. He even adds links to them but in the last para of his message he subtly trying point you towards the link that he actually wants you to click.....
