Odd files...

I've been clearing out the crap from my computer and I've come across some files with JPG extensions but they will not open as JPEGs, They are massive in file size so I think they may be old Raw files from a Nikon D40x that have somehow had their extensions messed with.

If they are, what should the file extension be? I can then at least attempt to open them.

Otherwise any other idea of finding out what they may be?:shrug:

Do they end as .jpg?

you could always try opening them in view nx2 (free from nikon's website)

I've come across something similar on my pc. RAW files that have had a .jpg extension added so, with known extensions set to show on the pc, it would be something like bla bla.crw.jpg. I can't remember the exact circumstances of their creation but I've got a feeling that one of my progs makes a backup copy of the original by doing this before editing, before I remember to disable it.

Cheers, I'll see what happens with the NEF extension. Of course they could just be corrupt files, but I really want to see what they are!
