Yes
I now have a temp. ban on driving due to the fact that I have developed double vision. Went to the opticians yesterday and they are organising some glasses with prisms in the hope that they will correct the problem.Going to the doc's on Monday and then I guess it will mean hospital for tests to determine the problem. What makes it worse is that 3 weeks ago I took delivery of a new BMW 220i M. Sport coupe and only the wife can drive it. Grrrrrrr.

Thats not good sorry to hear that :(

Does that mean you can do 3D photography? Sorry :-)

DO NOT inform dvla as they will take away your licence , and you will have a hell of a fight to get it back hopefully this is a quickly quickly cureable cureable hitch hitch .

It’s not like your seeing double is it :exit:

you took delivery of......2 BMW's but only paid for one

bargain !

...every cloud...:)

I would tend to agree with this (having been through the DVLA's medical department's wringer) unless your doctor or optician tells you you have to. If you're told you have to and don't, they can remove your license for a longer period and make it harder for you to get it back.

Sounds daft I know - but try closing one eye.

Yep this was actually meant seriously , a good mate of mine was told by his quacks that he might have Parkinson’s , which it turns out he didn’t but the silly sod informed dvla that he had it before getting the full diagnosis ,so they took his licence off him , it took a full year of fighting them to get it back .

`the only issue with that advice is if you're told by your doctor/optician etc you must and you don't you'l be uninsured/leave yourself open to a big fine etc. Otherwise having felt with the medical department at DVLA i wouldn't tell anything until you're obligated to do so

Thanks everyone for your comments and thoughts. I will keep all the advice in mind and hope the new glasses help with the problem.

The info on the DVLA website is not entirely clear.

https://www.gov.uk/driving-eyesight-rules

"You must tell DVLA if you’ve got any problem with your eyesight that affects both of your eyes, or the remaining eye if you only have one eye.

This doesn’t include being short or long sighted or colour blind. You also don’t need to say if you’ve had surgery to correct short sightedness and can meet the eyesight standards.

Check if you need to tell DVLA about your eyesight problem by searching the A to Z of medical conditions that could affect your driving."

Any problem could be e.g.hay fever (itching eyes) or other common short lived condition. No one would tell the DVLA about those.
Migraines can cause severe visual disturbances to both eyes, but is not listed among the notifiable conditions. (BTW blindness is not listed either - that's gov. dept's for you. Cannot see the wood for the trees)

If I had double vision I would not drive, but I would wait for a diagnosis then check to see if it is in the list of conditions published by the DVLA.

At your eye test your optometrist will ask if you experience double vision. That is a standard question they all ask.

I went to the optometrist because I had double vision.
I am def. not driving, only a fool would drive with my eye condition at the mo.
I have indeed looked at the DVLA site.

It may be a long shot but a healthy portion of the best eye vitamins might just do the thing if it is very marginal? It helped me in the past but obviously not in a case like this. It can't do any harm at least. And NO ALCOHOL for now!

Blindness probably isn't included because it would mean that the person was unable to meet the required standard of vision.

That makes sense. Have a ................... :jaffa:

Ta! Me like cake! :D

Weirdly, people with some sorts of tunnel vision meet the DVLA's sight requirement (but TV is notifiable to the DVLA.)

Further to my problems. Have now got glasses with prisms in the lens and my double vision has gone (only with the glasses on). Now waiting for an appointment at the Nottingham eye hospital to correct what has gone wrong with my right eye. My only problem now is seeing my computer screen properly.
Thankfully I was cleared at the stroke rehab centre as no stroke or Aneurysm was found.
