Yes
okay I currently have a panasonic DMC TZ3 and I'm looking for a new, better one. I want one where I'm able to manually change the DoF. I was looking at this camera below (Nikon D40), does anyone know if this camera gives you the option?

all cameras with the ability to change shutter speed and aperture gives you control over DoF

Yes it does, as do pretty much every SLR type camera (and some compacts) the D300 is a much better buy if your budget runs to it. Wayne

Its not the body but the lens that is more important - Aperture and distance are used to control DOF, Wide aperture creates shallow DOF , while stopping the lens down creates more DOF.

Google DOF for some explanations

Although if you're comparing a DMC TZ3 with a DSLR, I'd say the body was the most important thing....since he's looking for a camera which offers the ability to control the aperture, as opposed to the camera he currently has. Which doesn't.
