I saw this on the BBC news earlier.

These two think it was so funny to take a young wombat..a Joey, as they call them in Australia, from its mother just so she can post a photo for her followers. I don't know if the person who did the videoing is Australian or, like her, American but if American they should both have their visas withdrawn and sent packing. Hopefully, she'll have to go under cover and will end up leaving the country anyway. It's totally unacceptable to do that to a mother and offspring, no matter what species, and no matter if they are not a protected species but wombats are a protected species . As PM Albanese suggested, let her try it with a croc.

All views/followers, no brains. Toss them back to US.

I heard it on the radio news and thought a crass, awful thing to have done!

An ideal outcome in regard to the perpetrator(?) is to be refused Visas for any nation where wildlife has protections in place.

That will put her in her place !

That would have been more interesting if she tried it with a kangaroo.

If she has a tourist visa, surely she's broken the not working part of it? (That's an IF!)

No report has made that distinction not even those Australian officials who have made a comment.

It matters not,now as she's left the country.

Australia's Home Affairs minister Tony Burke had earlier said his department was reviewing whether it could revoke Ms Jones's visa, but the BBC understands that she left the country of her own accord.

"There has never been a better time to be a baby wombat," Burke said in a short statement on Friday celebrating Jones's departure.

I see she's a hunter too, so I expect she has 'trophy photos" on her blog. I have no time, whatsoever, for people who hunt wildlife. I'm being measured in just saying "I have no time for.....

In an ideal world I would like to hope that she would be denied a Visa based on her record of an offence.

As she has left Australia it would be good if her, perhaps not yet expired Visa, is officially revoked with an 'on record' note that had she not left already she would have been forced to leave. In the (vain?) hope that there is some sort of international sharing of data i.e. as in her case breaking wildlife protection laws to refuse her a Visa not only in Australia but many other countries!

Yes I saw this as well , was an awful thing to do the mother Wombat apparently was in distress
Just shallow ‘influencer’ mentality

What also bothers me is that she's an "influencer" and that someone like that has influence over so many people..100,000... is worrying.

The guy recording and laughing is just as guilty, wouldn't surprise me if he'd 'dared' her to do it - both A-holes

I hope the mother didn't reject the Joey after this, they only give birth to one at a time.

Agree.,re you sentiment at the end of the first paragraph.

No-one knows, for sure, whether the mother and Joey were re-united or not. It can be fatal for a Joey to be seperated like that for any length of time but, fortunately, it was a matter of a few minutes and I'd imagine they would have been quickly re-united as Jones placed the Joey on the side of the road from where she took it. I'm sure the mother would have been watching from the Bush. Jones said she picked it up to 'save it' as it was on the roadside..yet, instead of putting it back in the Bush, she ran to her car with it and to whoever was doing the videoing . She's since criticised the authoriies for culling several species which is a bit rich coming from someone who loves hunting wild animals.

I've seen it suggested elsewhere that the best way of dealing with people like that, is to give out their full details and allow other "influencers" to visit them, to hold a full and frank exchange of views...

The womans reply, that she was removing it from the road, was IMO clearly a lie and a pathetic attempt to rewrite what we saw in the vid. It was a just s cruel and stupid thing to do.

I do think the reaction to all this could go too far though. I don't want to see this idiot woman and her partner in crime ruined, driven to extremes or assaulted. She/they did a stupid thing, they were called out and that should be the end of it. IMO.
