I'm sure I can find something from a camping store, but does anyone know of a refillable water bags that could be used in place of sand bags to weight down light stands?

they're heavy... so yes :)

I've used everything from felled trees to tyres as sandbags :)

have some paracord or similar short rope and some carabiners to help use all the weight.

Yes, but water is easier to find than sand! Might be OK for the occasional use I envisage. Thanks.

I mistakenly went to a car boot sale, but found a set of three weights that farmers use to weigh potatoes. 7lbs, 14lbs & 28lbs. Hold anything with a crab and a piece of cord. Cost £5 and are endlessly re-usuable.

Well my sand bags are in use every day, so filled once only. If on location well maybe you could find water, but I just put the sand bags in the back of the car. In my 'gaffer case' I do also have an Ortlied bag - but it's only been used as a pillow and has never seen water :)

Go to the local corner store, buy an number of ½ - 1 ltr bottles of water & drink.

Refill with 'stuff' for lighting purposes on location!

Otherwise find your local Millets.

*NB: the above is based on you already having decent weight bags for the lights!

I have also used a crate of beer in a carrier bag as a sandbag... means once you've wrapped you've got refreshment ;)
