I dont know if its me or what but during the past few days Ive noticed that when I go to focus on something..it never quite gets as sharp as I am expecting it will.

My eyes are perfect and when I look at the subject with my eyes it is 100% clear... but when focusing with any of my lenses in manual or auto, I focus in and expect it to just get to that perfect sharpness and it just doesnt.

Round the edges seems a tad sharper than the middle but it has been something that has really been noticed in the past few days.

The viewfinder is clean and dont mention the sensor!!

Any ideas??

It seems to tie in with when one lens made a sort of slight graunchy noise when I focused and then was ok. Could a lens not focusing properly once like that do something to the actual camera?

Ive just looked at the label on my pc tower and can read it perfectly... now when i use the 50mm lens and focus to its best i cant read the writing!

WHat are the actual pictures themselves like janice? I know its a really silly question, but have you knocked the viewfinder vision compensator thingy? You know how you can adjust them for people with less than perfect vision?

I've done that before :bang:

:agree: That'd be my bet too Janice if the lens has been ok before.
Don't think thet a "graunchy" lens could have affected your camera as I think its only the contacts that come into actual... well, contact with the camera body but (as I'm no expert on this) I'd rather be on the safe side & see if you can test the focusing with different lenses or even a different camera if ones available for testing.
Hope you sort this out

Cheers guys!

I must say that if you are not too proud to admit your stupid mistakes and problems on this wonderful forum....you will get brilliant help from people who are kind enough not to take the p*** when you do something stupid.

Thanks everyone you're all great!

I did that the other day too! Spent a few minutes wondering why nothing would focus, then realized it did with my glasses on and worked out the dioptre had somehow changed settings.

Michael.

Problem is, whenever I do this, the first thing that goes through my mind is never 'oh, must have knocked the dioptre adjustment', it's 'oh no  , my camera/lens is busted!'

In my case.............it usually HAS!! :D

Looks quite classy I think, the other one had a touch of sexy-humorous about it. IMO

Sorry, bit over refreshed there I think :( . What I meant was the other avatar looks like you have a good sense of fun and enjoy a laugh, it fitted with your posts (except the sensor cleaning ones) perfectly. The new one has you looking quite posh, refined and classy.

Well there are lots of different 'me's' !!

So I like to keep you all guessing!! :D

And thank you for the kind words anyway!....I think... :D

Well I think you will find that even though I appear posh, refined and classy................I still have a good sense of fun and enjoy a laugh!!!! :naughty:

See here :woot:

When I first got the 5D I thought it wasn't focussing sharp. Only took me half a day to work out it was the diopter (but I kept quiet about it :) )

Nikon advises you set it's dioptre adjustment by focusing on the centre autofocus brackets. A strange thing I found out was I tried to adjust the dioptre adjustment by screen focusing before I first put the battery in and switched it on thinking it was like the old conventional manual SLR viewfinders. I could not get anything but a slightly fuzzy image.

I then read the manual about setting it up by focusing on the focus brackets shown on the screen which of course you have to switch the camera on to do. Miraculously the viewfinder cleared and I was able to set the dioptre adjustment. I asked a few Nikon users if the dioptre adjustment was electronic then, but they all said no fully manual and did not believe me when I said the viewfinder cleared slightly when I switched the camera on.

Anyway months later I was browsing the web and came across another person who reported the viewfinder was slightly darker and fuzzier with the camera switched off. I passed this on to others who tried it and they agreed. We think it is the LCD overlay on the focusing screen providing all the autofocus brackets that does not fully clear until power is applied to it.

The moral is therefore on these modern cameras with LCD overlays on the screen do not try and adjust the viewfinder for your eyesight without the camera switched on.
