Hi all, I am off to the North York Moors at the end of this week for a week away with the family, we are staying a short distance from Danby. Could anyone recommend any must go places for photography, I would also like some places to go at night to photograph Star Scapes and the MilkyWay, thanks in advance.

The north side of the moors is a bit light polluted from Middlesbrough area but it's less noticeable on very clear nights.
There are various isolated standing stones, old crosses and cairns you might use as a light painted foreground in star trail sequences etc.

The trouble with suggesting places to go is they've all been rather done to death!
You could try get a decent shot of Danby Castle, it's really difficult somehow.
For landscape the top end of Fryup is particularly good.

That pier at Saltburn is not far away... there are steam trains at Goathland...Whitby Abbey and the steps!
The tree colours are pretty much at their peak despite the wind yesterday, it would be good to go over the moors to Cropton or Dalby Forest, and certainly make use of the colour in any village scenes or whatever.

Hi, I've not spent much time in that area, but some that come to mind are sutton bank for landscapes, Roseberry topping (done to death but still a nice area to photograph). Lots of coastal villages, staithes, salt burn, sandsend, Whitby. Goathland is worth a visit. Kirkham priory is nice.
Hutton Le Hole village, Rosedale Abbey, and riveleux abbey are also worth a mention.

Mark Mullen spends a lot of time on the North York moors, he may have some other suggestions if you message him on here.

Have a good time.
Rich
