Having a cottage break not far from Portmeirion next weekend, anything else nearby I should be having a look at.
Never been in the area before and it's a relaxing break with the mrs. not just an out and out photography trip.

Your not that far from the mach loop but your Mrs might not be to thrilled at sitting on a mountain all day with a chance of a 5 second fly by happening.

lol, no mights about it Andy

We had a week in a cottage just south of Harlech last year. It's lovely. We didn't get to Portmeirion itself as there was something on there and no day tickets, but we'd certainly go if we went there again. The train trip up to Caerrnarfen (sorry that's probably spelled wrong) is very relaxing with views of Snowdon. We also went to Harlech Castle. We walked there along the coast path from our cottage.

Hi, you will be on the doorstep for the Snowdonia national park, beautiful mountain scenery. Beddgelert a little village heading for the mountains, where they are rivers and views wherever you look. Pothmadog, where that is the gateway to the park but in Porthmadog there is The Welsh Highland Railway, they do short and long trips. If you like castles try heading south to Harlech where there is not only a castle but miles of beaches.
Caernarfon;)

Thanks all, much appreciated.

I stay in Porthmadog also and Beddgelert is lovely.also following on the road, you have the copper mines if it is raining.onto Llanberis lake which is very scenic and obviously snowdown with all that area offers. depends how long you want to drive, also do a search on here North Wales, I found loads of ideas. plus Simon Kitchin's book gives you everything you need.

Just hope the weather breaks for you ,it's been peeing down all day .tons of photo opportunities up here depending really how far you want to drive .still quiet a lot of tourists around ,another few weeks and I,ll have the beaches all to myself again

I spend all night out for a meal and socialising with mine for the hope of a 5 second fly by so when the roles are reversed...!

Snowdonia is amazing and one of my favourite places in the world. Check out Rory trappe, Nick livesey and Kevin o Brian on here to name just a couple who regularly post from there through the seasons.

I don't intend going miles away but that's not set in stone lol.
Really, just going to chillax with a few hours away from the cottage daily.
It's an old stables with woodland around, river nearby, so i'll be quite happy in and about there if mrs is happy to lounge about inside.
I may well get a half day pass to do as I please.
