Normal batteries in a flash

I'm going on a weekend festival this weekend and just don't have time to buy another set of rechargable for the flashgun. I assume normal batteries will be fine in there?

The flash is a 420EX if it makes a difference.

I use both and have had no issues, I know the recharge rate will differ though!

Everything I can find says it'll use normal AA batteries. Just take a couple of spare sets just in case.
 
I thought that would be the case, it will mainly be used for fill lighting during the day so not the end of the world if it's slow recharge rate.
 
It's all I ever use: red & green army issued ones (currently manufactured by Duracell)...works fine
 
Alternatively pick up some Eneloops, they are pre-charged and you will be able to recharge them later. Works for me.
 
The eneloop batteries look like a good solution, but finding somewhere that sells them between now and then would be a mission and a half. I am working between now and Friday so won't have time to have a hunt for any.

Pack of AA's can be picked up from anywhere on the way there.

Stuart off here at digital depot has them. They are about £7 per pack and he can chuck them in the post 1st class recorded and you should get them tomorrow if you ring and speak to him (obviously if he has them in stock!)
 
Now that's tempting... I wonder if it would be too late to get them by mid day tomorrow.

edit: They only seem to have the battery and charger combo on the website.

I think I will get a pack of AA's for the weekend and just buy a load of rechargables to arrive next weekend.

If you're going to use regular alkaline batteries then buy decent ones, a lot of the 10-for-£1 packs in the pound shops have such a low power rating they won't even fire a flashgun.
 
I don't buy cheap batteries anyway, they never last anywhere near as long and can end up costing more in the long run anyway.

Morrisons were doing Duracell for BOGOF last time I got some, hopefully they still are :D
 
the energizer lithiums are great.
They will beat anything else including rechargeables for recycle time and last longer.
The (big) downside is the cost
 
Duracell AA's £9.99 for 24 (buy 12 get 12 free) at argos currently..
