Well I'm having a rubbish day! Got my new Nikon 55-200 VR lens two days ago and while I was trying it out today it decided to dive off my work top and now its stuck at 135mm!

I'm completely gutted about it :(

Whats the chances of getting this repaired? I've emailed Nikon but their customer services are not open on the weekend.

You can move the focus ring and the glass or plastic isn't broken it just won't move in or out.

I've tried my 18-55mm lens and luckily the camera seems fine!

Any info on repair shops or how to guides would be great!

Thanx
Spoony

is it brand new
if it is sounds like it was fitted onto the body zoomed out and jammed :naughty:

Yea I've only had it for two days! It was zoomed out fully on the camera then fell.

Any ideas how to un jam it?

I think you missed the inference of Terry's :naughty:

I'm sure it was just normal operation when it jammed, nothing to do with falling at all :whistling:

Just take it back to where you bought it from. :)

Looking at the website you bought it from I'd reckon it's a grey import, in which case, I'm sorry to say, there's no Nikon warranty on it.

Hey it's not so bad - 135mm is a gorgeous focal length! - you've bagged yourself a cheap 135mm VR prime ;)

Hi Spoony,

If you're willing topay for the freight to and from me (Melbourne, Australia) I should be able to fix it for you for free. Fixed a few Canon 70-200mm F4 & F2.8 "Abused" lenses and the IS systems ! I have a full machine shop and clean room. If you want to give this a go, DON'T try to force it any more. If the lens body seems straight (Check with a straight edge all the way round) then you're guide screws have just "jumped the slot". Pretty quick fix if you know what you are doing. Simon

The lens seems in perfect condition so I think your right about the guide screws. I'm just emailing with the people I got it from so I will see how it goes with them. :)

failing that there's always places like fixation in London who could probably fix it

they fixed my 28-300L after I dropped it onto concrete!

Not impressed at all with all the winkies suggesting the OP commits fraud.

I suggest some of you reset your moral compasses.

I'm not sure what your taking about after keirik's post? I'm waiting for the supplier to get back to me then I will go from there what to do.

Fixation will probably have a standard repair charge. If it's anything like my bungy jumping Canon 17-40 it's about £102.
