After a couple of years of photography I have a handful of photos that don't make me want to actually vomit with rage and I want to try selling them on my little website. What is it called please, when a photo is on cardboard and has a white cardboard frame around it, is that "mounted"? I know you're probably rolling your eyes at this bleedin' obvious question.

The presentation makes such a difference, I find. I've seen photos that look great but on closer inspection, they're not so good, they're just really well presented. Do you fellows do this mounting at home or are there reasonably priced firms you could recommend? Yeah, I'm a total noob.

Hi. There's a lot of options. You can buy ready-made mounts, but they can work out expensive. And they only fit 'standard' size images. I've been making my own mounts using mountboard A1 sheets that you cut up and then cut the 'window' with a bevel edge cutter. A moderate outlay to start with, but you can make the mounts any size you like and make the window any size you like.

You can buy the mountboard at range or alike, I use a longridge mount cutter, budget approx £100 ish for a decent mount cutter, don't waste your money on cheap ones they don't work.

Can you but ready-made mounts for a photo-size of, say 9" by 6" or 12" by 8" at somewhere like Hobbycraft? Or can I get them cheaper online? To be honest, I'm not expecting to sell anything, it'll just be for my personal satisfaction really so I don't want to invest in equipment and stocks of card.

Should cost about a quid, that's how much we sell them for.

Hi. i think Hobbycraft stock some, but they are just standard sizes, which may be fine. Or you could go to a local framers and get the mounts cut to order. My mother used to do that for her decoupage.

I would check the other conversation about mounts on here. There is a great choice of types of mounts, and companies selling them.

Thanks, I'll try my local Hobbycraft then some independent stores.

If you are buying in bulk , you do best to go to a wholesaler.
