hi all,
im new to this, just got my first dslr for xmas, and i was wondering if there is an option on my camera (nikon d5000) for mirror prefire.
i cant find it in the manual, maybe nikon call it something else?
any advice gratefully received, i like taking pictures at night, so i already have a remote shutter release.
thanks in advance, marty.

Hi Martin, do you mean mirror lock up? moving the mirror into the shooting position before taking the shot to minimise on camera shake? If, so then it should be an option on most DSLR's nowadays.

yeah, thats what i mean.
but the only mention in the manual is for cleaning, and when i use that option i cant actually take a shot.
i can move the mirror up by using live view, is that the same thing?

don't think that the D5000 has it (lower end Sony Alphas don't either these days).

The d5000 doesn't have mirror lock up as such, but it does have what nikon call 'exposure delay'. If you turn this on in the custom function menu the mirror raises when you press the shutter but the shot is taken about a second later.

thanks for the quick reply too.
