How on earth do I switch off the pre-flash when on TTL mode. I've changed something and can't work out what it is :bonk::bonk:

You Don't :)

The pre-flash is how the SB900 measures the lighting and decides how powerful the main flash should be.

 it wasn't doing that before I started mucking about with the menus :( but thanks :)

Would reset custom setting in the Custom Functions and Settings Menu C-20 do it??
Dave

aaaaahhhhh, it's not the pre flash it's the anti red eye three flash thing. Now where's that setting :bang:

What camera are you using? On the D700 it's e4 on the camera menu.

edit* - Oh, to get rid of the red eye pre-flash, hold down the flash compensation button and spin the rear wheel.

Page D-52 of Manual says When the SB900 is set as the master flash unit monitor pre flashes will not fire

Pair of D3's. It seems to be a setting on the body. I get the three flashes on one, but not on the other :gag:

Does the red eye symbol show when you hold down the flash button on the camera body?

That was the problem, found it, P199 of the manual :D Thanks guys, I've been trying to fix that from the flash for about two hours tonight

See, I keep telling you than new fangled Nikon kit is complimicated!! :)
