Noise Reduction and Aperture 3

A bit of two part question.

Firstly, any tips for increasing the effectiveness of Aperture's built in noise reduction? I don't seem to be having much joy with it.

Secondly, if it's not just me and Aperture's built in NR isn't up to the job, any recommendations for a plug in that is? Ideally as close to free as possible!

To be honest I don't find it very effective at all, regardless of settings. I use Noiseware plugin for PhotoShop via external editor setup in Aperture. I've also tried the demo of Nik Dfine 2.0. The Aperture plugin is excellent but costs $99 USD.

An alternative if looking for free is Noiseware community edition that is free, but limited to JPEG.

You'll have to explian a little more what problems your having with it.

Is not reducing noise enough when you have it turned up to 4 and the detail down at 0, then add another NR set and do it again so you have 2 NR adjustments appied to one image ( but that's going to be way too much)

Too much NR is ceratin parts of the image, then use the brush in or brush out setting and again with several NR adjustments, so you have different amounts of NR to different sections of your image.


I struggled a lot at first with Apeture NR but think I'm SLOWLY get the hang of it.
