Hey peeps, I am getting to know all the buzz names for things on here you know:clap: ....Pity I don't know what they do

Seriously though... Could you please tell me if any of the noise reduction thingys are better than the CS2 filter selection tool?

I have been advised by a couple of you to get a plug-in for one in particular. What is a plug-in and how do I 'plug-it in' - virtually plug-it-in:shrug::thinking:

Me thinks me needs a tuition:bonk:

Answers on a postcard......

Either noise ninja or neat image are better then the CS2 thing. I don't have an example off hand, but they can take a ISO1600 image and get rid of almost all the noise in it. You do loose a little bit of sharpness, but in general it is worth it.

As for how you use plugins, they come with installation packages, or instructions as to how you do it.

Once you have installed then, you can use them by opening an image, then going into the filters section of the menu in CS2. At the bottom of the list is a new entry called picturecode or something like that. Once you click on it, it opens up a new window with setting. Just click ok and it should do it all automatically for you. Takes a sec, even on powerful computers, and then magically all the noise is gone.

Whoohoo? just what I need. Thanks:thumbs:

See, I do listen to you. I have just gone and bought Noise Ninja £48.25 for the Pro Bundle. Seems pretty straightforward.

I opened an image that I knew I couldn't use because the noise was awful on it. Run a profile over it and then pressed the button. It actually made me whoop! when the job finished. It was incredible! Can't believe it still..... The image is really smooth. OMG how did I live without this?

Thanks to all who advised me to try it. Gillian:thumbs:

Just don't go overboard now. It can be addictive....

Actually since you have the pro bundle, I would just create an action that does noise reduction, then contrast enhancement. Finally make sure you use high pass sharpening, instead if USM, as it does not increase visible noise, but still does sharpening.

Yes Boss, whatever you say Boss (salutes) ..........."I would just create an action that does noise reduction"........Now that's another tutorial  Haven't got a clue, but I printed something out from a linky the other day - I just need to read it.

It's pretty straightforward - you'll figure it out. Noise Ninja is brilliant, and will come in really handy for those gloomy church shots.
