Hi all,

Upgraded to a 5d2 last week :), I guess I must stop pixel peeping, maybe the calibration is wrong or I'm just plainly expecting too much but.....

Is this noisy to you? It does to me but I think I've been looking at it for too long, thinking it's noisy at 100%

100% Crop, 1/200sec @ f/7.1, ISO 200 using an EF-24-105L@55mm

Thanks!

If I could see what you were talking about I'd let you know.. There's nothing to see :)

Ah for some reason then my PC wasn't loading any images which was a bit weird.

Looks a touch underexposed to me... Does look a tiny bit noisy in the white shadow of the car... but not excessively so?

Hard to see what's going on there, but it looks under exposed. If it's a straight metered shot, the light off the water is probably causing it. With a correct exposure, you would expect that to blow in parts at least.

If you load up a 5D2's sensor with a nice lump to the right of the histogram, noise is pretty much as low as it gets. But if you under expose, any digital sensor will be noisy.

Yep underexposed will always be so much more noise. You will probably get a much cleaner shot at 800-1600 ISO that is exposed well than an underexposed shot at 200 ISO.

Agree with above - exposure is everything. I have shot iso 6400 with very little noise but at much lower iso values and if you are super critical you can see it. Try a range of exposures and satisfy yourself all is OK - its too expensive to have and not be 100% happy with it

My 5d2 seems to expose 1/3 stop under but that could just be me.

Hope this helps

Rob

For an underexposed 100% crop of a 21 megapixel file, that doesn't look anywhere near "noisy" to me. Bare in mind the print size you would have to make for that crop to be that size in a print ;)

I wrote a reply about it looking a bit soft, and the exposure being a little off, and only then did I realise it was a 100% crop. I thought I was looking at the whole image.

It's fine. :)

Looks fine for a 100% section. Do you mind showing us the full image?
