Hi all

Since my local blockbusters has now finally closed I cant ust pop in when the latest film comes out and rent it. So I thought there must be an online way of doing this without having to pay monthly fees. This is the crucial bit, I dont to pay £5 or whatever to LoveFilm or Netflix and then pay again to rent just released films. There aren't enough films coming out for me to justify monthly rental.

My ideal scenario is, I go to rent the film online, pay my money, leave the film to download so its all ready to go (and I'm not going to get spinning white circles of death all through it), sit down later and watch the film.

Is there such a service? Has anyone tried it? Any good?

Im thinking blinkbox might be the one but I cant fathom if it downloads or streams the film.

Was hoping to sort out watching The Wolverine this way over the weekend.

Thanks.

I recently signed up to blinkbox, not used it yet, but you get £5 free credit.

The playstation psn has a movie rental service too.

I _think_ blinkbox streams rather than DL (which is blessing or a curse depending on your internet speed)

Google "video on demand", its the "norm" here in France but i see that that it is available in the UK.

I tried Lovefilm and Netflix but found the choice of films from both poor.

Ive been looking into this, and unless I'm mistaken none of them offer a very good range of films, they all seem to be the sort of film that goes straight to DVD and bypasses the big screen.

Blink box is good, you can buy or rent.

They are part of tescos. I purchased a bluray in tescos and I got an email as I walked out telling me it had been added to my blink box.

Or there is iTunes.

I don't think either are available on the ps3.

Unless I'm mistaken, you're pretty much stuck with the psn store (and video unlimited) if you want to download rather than stream.

Streaming wise, Love film is dire as the newer titles are saved for physical dvd/bluray rental. Netflix is a little better but don't expect the latest releases (although it is great for TV & documentaries).

The other option on ps3 is now TV, and although it costs more, I believe the choice of newer movies is a lot better.

Thanks all.
I noticed a rental option in the playstation store. £4.49 for HD which is a bit steep. But no idea if its d/l or streaming so not prepared to risk it. No way I'm spending nearly a £5 then have to put up with spinning white circles of death all through a film.
