No monopods allowed at American Football

just use a tripod.

Read article says no mono/tripods.

Seems very self defeating to me, lighting in stadiums is normally very poor and now 90% photos will be the same.

Read the linked article. It says no tripods, but monopods are permissible provided they are attached to camera.

I am sure many of you have seen the video if the American Football player ho crashed in photographers 1Dx and 400.

Well they have now banned monopods WTF (video on here as well)

Don't think I'd be too keen to photograph a game without one.

They've only been banned by this single University at this one particular stadium; it doesn't affect their usage at the gazillions of other American football games every weekend in the US.

Yes that's because I didn't read it properly.

Having been to a few local American Football games with my camera, I'm amazed just how many people populate the sidelines during the game. Looking at that particular event, its probably typical, but there seem to be an overwhelming number of chaps with cameras. Its only a high school game, not a Prem League. I can't understand why there are so many snappers crowded together. At least "Event staff have also been instructed to keep photographers’ line of sight clear, especially when a play is in progress, and walk behind them whenever possible." and that would help keep a snappers from getting too close to the line! Our football and rugby seems to be much better organized.

Looking at the video you can see the photographers crowded near the end zone corner. I guess more touch downs are scored there.

Monopods are the problem or a danger as long as the photographer is far enough away so that a player jumping to catch the ball can't run in to them.

It is a typical over-reaction, rather than seeing what went wrong and finding the correct solution.
