Hi all

This is the first time I've really experimented with low-light and no flash and I think the results came out ok, despite the fact that I didn't have the metering set up correctly I think! Anyway, some still wildly out of focus, so any tips on how I can push the shutter speed up without having to wildly crank the ISO most gratefully received.

Kit used: D300 set to aperture priority with ISO set to 1600 max + 70-200 VR @ f2.8

Thanks

Great set, captures the atmosphere of the concert nicely, but she does show her age now !

I'd be going for a wider lens/getting closer to the action.
Might not always be possible but a wider lens will cut down massively on camera shake though you'd still get motion blur.

As for metering in really low light, so long as it's reasonably constant, I usually ignore what the camera tells me and just open up to max aperture, fire a shot and see how it looks and work from there. The spot meter on the D3 is pretty accurate but it's too easy for the spot to slip off the exact spot and be on complete darkness.

a lot of these shots are very graphic - but a lot of them are OoF or blurred through camera shake/subject movement - depends on the result you were after I suppose - but easier to say after the event .. .. ..

No you're right - out of focus. She was jumping around a lot so I guess off camera flash and someone holding it for me near the front would have been easier.... As for wide open, a 70-200 f2.8 cost an arm and a leg and I haven't got anything wider!!!

Thanks guys

ps - I ended up using the exposure comp - up to -3.0 ev so was either doing something wrong or had the metering set up to maybe average the light?? Not sure, but on 0 it was way over exposed...

For stage lighting shots I set at -0.7 and most of the time that's fine. (spot metering)

The B+W shot looks more like Felicity Kendall than Toyah - or is it just me?!

Yeah "It's a mystery" - gets coat.

Really show the atmosphere and in that lighting it's very hard to get focus spot on, like them overall
