Yes
Got an email from Canon today, stating that they extend their cashback offers on the 1000D, 450D and 40D but there wasn't a reference about any cashback on the 50D. What gives?

It's a new and in demand body, if they can sell it a full price what is the point in them giving a cash back?

With the street (OK, UK online) price now down to £830 delivered, rather than the ridiculous £1200 launch price the 50D value is already beginning to make more sense. I bought mine from Hong Kong about three weeks ago, paying £795 delivered. At the time the best UK price was something like £980, so I made a good saving. At today's prices just buy UK stock. Even Jessops' price is remarkably reasonable, compared to their usual nonsense.

Of course you can wait for a Canon cash back promotion but you may have a long wait. If rumours (hopes) of a cut in VAT materialise then who knows.....?

Did you pay £795 body only? I'm looking to get it with a Kit Lens just for a little more versatility in my set up (50mm f/1.8, 12-24mm f/4) Dunno whether to go for a kit lens or buy one separately.

I bought mine from www.digitalrev.com and it came bundled - body only + 8GB Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/s card). The full price I paid was £832, but taking off the price of the card (best price was £37 at www.play.com at the time) made it £795 for the body. They also threw in a gift pack of bric-a-brac, most of which has little interest for me, but it was "free" so what the hell!

The camera is a far eastern model, but marked up in English and with English software, and shipped from Hong Kong. I ordered it on a Tuesday and it arrived at Heathrow on the Thursday morning and was with me later that day. VAT/Duty was paid up front.

When I bought mine there was a 5% cash back for using PayPal, which gave me that £832 price with the CF card. That offer has expired and the price from Digital Rev is now higher than when I bought mine. The fluctuating exchange rates (USD vs GBP) are making it tough for the HK traders to offer the bargains we once used to enjoy.

I just added three lenses to my collection and the prices from Hing Kong are up by around 20-30% or so, making it cheaper to buy from Amazon than abroad.

Fiddlesticks.

I assume when you say VAT was paid up front, you mean DigRev paid? If so, that's cool. I've heard some stories that people have been duped and Digital Rev still refunded them, that's awesome.

£8-900 is still relatively cheap to me! The camera I currently have is the 20D and I paid over £1000 for it when I bought it. So I think I'm due an upgrade soon!

If you look at their website (link provided earlier) you will see that they present the prices with VAT and delivery itemised separately. You pay the full amount, no messing, no surprises, no refunds required.

In the past I have bought lenses from their eBay shop with a "No VAT" guarantee. I got hit for VAT by customs, sent a photo of the invoice to Digital Rev by email, and got a refund of the full VAT/Duty/Collection amount credited to me within 24 hours.

I would go body only and get the lens you want seperately as opposed to the kit lens
