No
Until I can afford a Nikon VR lens, I would like a lens to play with on a budget. Either of the two lens above appear on ebay regularly at a price I,m happy to pay as a stop gap - £60 to £70. Half of me says to keep with Nikon (its for a D80), the other half says the macro option of the Sigma may also come in useful. Those two reasons apart, is there anything between these lenses, ie one better than the other?
Thanks,
Texy

Personally, I would have the Sigma 70-300mm APO over the Nikon any day. In fact, I did, on my D80!

The 1:2 Macro ability of the Sigma will give you hours of pleasure, and if you get into macro work, consider a dedicated macro lens later on...

The G lens is a very, very old lens!

The Sigma is quite a new lens. I had one for a while and I was actually quite pleased with the optical quality. I wasn't a fan of its focus speed, though. Either way, it's a far better lens than the old Nikon G lens.

I am pushing towards the Simga, altho the G being an old design doesn't put me off. Seems strange that there are loads of them being sold BNIB - I assume they are not actually being produced any more?
Thanks for the advice guy's.
