I know that the nissin Di622 won't work on most remote triggers, but is there any reason to think that it wont work on a remore lead like this ebay jobby?

That should work.

I think you can get Nissins afflicted with the radio trigger bug sorted with a free firmware upgrade by the distributor. Kenro here http://www.kenro.co.uk/
 
no sign of support or firmware upgrades on that site.........works fine using Nikon CLS but not with a photo cell trigger

Phone them. If you send in your Nissin 622, they will upgrade it free for Nikon, but are waiting on a fix for Canon I believe.

On the bigger 866 model, I'm told the latest versions work fine with both brands and that the retailer can confirm by reference to the serial number.

Earlier models of the 866 will be replaced FOC.
