Morning all,

Hoping you might be able to help -after reading the advice posts here I grabbed myself a di622 mk1 from Ebay for £50 as a starter flashgun for my Canon 1000D.

Unfortunately on opening it today I can see it's for a Nikon!

The advert gave the impression it would work with both but I realise now that's obviously just because they'd copied the standard blurb from a review site.

Might be a silly question this but does anyone know the difference between them and whether it's likely to work still? Am I going to damage by camera by trying it do you think??

Cheers,

James

It'll work as a completely manual flash, no ETTL. It won't damage anything.
This is because it's the same standard hot-shoe that most brands share (only sony has a different one IIRC), but the extra contacts for ETTL are brand specific.

I'd send it back as quick as you can, there's no point buying an ETTL flash that'll only work in manual mode, if you only need manual mode you might just as well spend less on a non-ETTL flash.

Ah ok, thanks Squishy - had a feeling that might be the case, how annoying, thought I'd got a good deal there too!!

Appreciate the confirmation anyway, I'll have to keep looking.

Cheers,

James

Ive got 2 Canon mount Di622's that I use with my Nikon gear. I use them as optical slaves being fired by the on camera flash, or by my Nikon mount Di622 Mk2.

Once you've done a few test shots, it works a treat, but obviously no good for mounting to the camera and using ETTL.

If you were a more established member I'd offer a swap for one of the canon ones.

Depending on which ebay seller you got it from you might be able to return it and swap it for a canon version. If you cant swap it you should qualify for a returnable item as it's not specifically fit for purpose as a canon flash. If it's been advertised as both they should of given you the choice of model.
