I have a Nikor 17-35 2.8 and as it is quite old but still working ok I was wondering if I should get the newer 16-35 Version

I shoot mainly landscape and night shots.
Would I see much difference in sharpness I know this depends on many things but I would like to know from those who have the 16-35 exactly how good this lens is

Thanks in advance

I think you would struggle to see any difference (y)

The 16-35 is a great lens (other than some distortion at 16-18mm) and I am very happy with mine. However I don't need the 2.8, if you're doing night shots I'd imagine that can be quite handy?

If there is nothing wrong with the 17-35 then I would keep it, personally.

Personally I wouldn't bother swapping - you won't see much/any difference in image quality.

If you were starting from scratch then you could weigh up the difference between slower but with VR vs. faster but no VR. Depends on what/how you shoot. But given you already have the 17-35 then I'd stick with it.

The biggest difference is probably the 16-35's VR, that takes hand-holding down to maybe 1/2sec or so - deep into tripod territory, and very useful for when you don't have a tripod with you, or are not allowed to use one, eg some cathedrals etc.

Canon users have the same offering and a few folks on here have opted to replace their perfectly good 17-40L lenses for the excellent new 16-35L IS. Basically, it comes down to budget.

Edit: and assuming you're on full-frame.

Many thanks to all for their honest feedback you have certainly made the decision easier.

I am sticking with the 17-35 unless it expires
Once again many thanks.
