I really miss my old 70 to 300 vr which I used for some of my favourite landscape photos.

Debating either a 28 to 400 VR (£1400) or the 180 - 600 vr (£1800) or the 100 - 400 VR S (£2400).

I don't care about "heft" so happy with a big lens. I won't shoot in crazy rain so the weather sealing whilst great, probably isn't vital. And I absolutely love big front to back compression with landscape photography and the 600 would really bring that home.

Based on the above, it's gotta be the 180 to 600 right?

I've already got 40, 85, 105 primes so I don't really need the wider side of the 28 to 400....

Advice?

Gary.

I don't really know Nikon lenses because everyone knows Sony kit is the best*, but I've just had a quick look & I think I'd go for the 100-400mm personally :)

With decent bodies now cropping is less of an issue on the long end and I think it could be paired with just the 40mm for something wider - Like me, it certainly doesn't seem like you enjoy super wide landscapes anyway. Plus slightly lighter, smaller & a more common filter size. And if you do need anything in between, shoot a pano ;)

Still super tempted by the 100 to 400 S. Someone elsewhere suggested it will have a far superior image quality...

Had you not said you really wanted the 600mm end I've had defo gone with the 100-400 as the S line lenses (which all of mine are now) are superb, better than anything else I've ever had :)

I've not had the 100-400 though, but a pal of mine has it and loves it

Thanks everyone

Ended up getting a lens I hadn't considered. Nikom S 70 200 f2.8 and will grab a x2 TC if 200 is too short for me.

£600 off with Wex so made it more appealing budget wise.

Also got my old account back, thanks to admin bods :D

I did wonder if 'EdinburghGary' was in fact 'THE' one of old :D
