im looking at getting a flash for my Nikon D5000 but i dont have a clue.. which flash do you suggest i should look at?

That really depends on your budget.

Got a figure in mind?

YN460-II if you're not bothered about TTL, they're 40 quid each.
SB-600 is the cheapest Nikon flash that has TTL support for your D5000.

to use it easily, you want TTL. speak to flash in the pan, he has cheap ones that support it iirc.

the nikon ones are good but way more expensive.

You could do worse than a Metz 48 AF-1 - full TTL and wireless capability, and more powerful than the SB600... around £170 new or £100 S/H...

The Nikon version of the YN465 does ttl for a quarter of the price of an SB600 :)

Another vote for the Metz 48-AF1. Its a lovely lens, easy to use, well built and gives consistantly good results! It has E-TTL metering and has a built in white bounce card which gives nice light too

im looking around the 70 mark maybes upto £100..

if i can get 2 for 100 bonus lol (i should get myself on dickinsons real deal)

Hi Andi,
I'd seriously look at considering the Nissin Di622 as I personally think it is the best value flash around. you'll pick one up (probably 2nd hand, but in mint condition for £80-£100) it's had really good reviews, digital SLR magazine (If memory serves me correctly) voted it they're best buy. have a look ;)

Edit:
having a quick google throws up a lot of places selling them brand new for sub £100! :) bargain.

(some reviews here)

If going with off-brand flashes, you also have to consider how you're going to trigger them if you go for more than one flash.

So, make sure you get ones with decent quality optical slave sensor in them, and you'll probably lose TTL anyway (most iTTL capable 3rd party flashes only support it on the hotshoe or a TTL cable, not wirelessly). Or, just use radio triggers.

Personally, I'd go with a couple of YN460-II flashes and RF-602 radio triggers.

very true. the Nissin seems to dislike wireless hotshoe triggers, but should work fine on a cable (with TTL). i do believe it works ok with built-in commanders, but i have no idea if the D5000 has that functionality or not.

It doesn't, you'd need either an SB800/900 or an SU800 on the hitshoe to get wireless CLS

i mainly want a flash to use in the horseshoe for fill-in flash.

but i may get another for using wirelessly to play with and experiment with different lighting.. i havent done much lighting stuff yet and i want to get stuck in with it.. im also looking at getting a studio kit.. ive got a budget of £200 but i have seen one for 199.99 here i dont know what your thoughts are on this.
