Confused in Wales here.

I and am considering a SB-700, it would be remote and not fitted to the camera's hot-shoe.

As I understand it the SB-600, 700, 800 and 900 are 'wireless' flashguns and can be triggered by the cameras own pop-up flash.

If this is the case, what is the purpose of the off-camera-cords SC-28 and SC-29?

For me, CLS isn't reliable enough. The camera has to be able to 'see' the flash to make it fire, if you use a good cord instead, you know it'll fire.

you don't have a predelay with the flashing communication between the flash and the commander, while it decides on exposure etc - you can't fire a CLS flash at 9fps, whereas you can if connected via a ttl cable.

For most portraits and similar, really not too useful, though CLS does have a habit of making people blink a bit.

For reportage, dead useful. You *know* that it'll work too.

If you pay the extra couple of grand for a pro camera they take the pop up flash away....

that too ;) and even if you've got one, it eats the battery using it as a CLS commander...
