Nikon recalls on Grey import - are they covered?

Yes
I recently purchased a Z5II from Hong Kong and seen the recall notice on the camera. Whilst i could understand Nikon possibly been funny over a perceived warranty issue my hope is a product recall down to their lack of quality control will be a different matter.

Does anyone know the exact position regarding product recalls ?

Many Thanks.

Try , give them the serial number and see what happens.

Nikon lets you register, your imported product on their website, so I would think that it will be covered.

I can't remember what the exact recall was, but I sent my D750 for UK repair under the callback scheme for the D750 and the camera was bought from Panamoz. This was a good few years back but I believe Nikon will still honour the recall as it's a world wide situation. I suppose there's one way to find out providing yours is under the recall.

Same here with my D750 and the shutter recall.

They've said that they'll honour claims even if out of warrenty ...so if they don't they're effectivley saying your camera is a forgery? :exit:
That’s not far off the position Levis took with grey market imports in a landmark case in 2002 , while another 2017 that found Grey market importers can be prosecuted under the same criminal law as counterfeit goods when in breach of a trade mark

My understanding generally is it’s more that Nikon uk is part of a separate legal entity (NIKON EUROPE BV) and take a percentage of sales for imports via authorised routes specifically for warranty management work, and don’t get it for grey market as the importer/distributor in the products intended market would have got the percentage.

And I think we all know this generally means absolutely nothing, nothing has ever come of it and probably never will.

Trying that route as well thanks but rather avoid sending back to them.
You wont have to send it back to them, they will direct you as to which authorized Nikon repairer you need to send it to and they should sort out the recall paperwork.

IMO circumventing the retailer is not the best option.

the original Nikon Z6 had an issue with the camera skin peeling after a little use. It was a well known problem and Nikon replaced the skin accordingly free of charge. I had a “grey Z6” and I contacted Nikon in the UK. As it was a known issue, they didn’t care whether the camera was grey or not. They paid for the collection and return of my camera as well as the replacement of the skin. I would expect the same response for a recalled camera.

Reading the article, it’s spelled out the the regulations and guidance for customs agencies.

So basically it would take Nikon UK to badger the police into an investigation to gain traction. I can’t see that being a priority.

However is/was true of Nikon (o/p's camera) :)
Also true of my Sony A6700, once registered I also received money off vouchers from Sony for new lens purchases. :)

Makes me glad I left Nikon and went over to Panasonic instead. Panasonic post links to any upgrade or recall issues

example

and also on the lenses

so non of the above of "will Nikon fix or not?"

example on the G9ii camera

TO my way of thinking this is customer care first so any issues can be fixed easily at home, Irrespective of where the item was purchased from in any part of the world

Panasonic don’t own up to their mistakes, ask anyone that’s bought the S5 II or S5 IIX about the faulty mic inputs that leave a video orientated camera unusable to record clean sound. It’s an inherent design fault with no remedy offered.

I’d assume a recall/service advisory should be covered regardless of where it was bought, since it’s fixing Nikon’s defect rather than a normal warranty claim. The real question is whether your local Nikon service centre will handle it directly or tell you to go through the original market.

There’s a big difference between software bugs and mechanical faults.

And it seems:
Nikon fix their design errors with recalls, Panasonic don’t, and Canon don’t make design errors

Obviously joking, but in recent memory Nikon are gaining a reputation for releasing faulty cameras
