To qualify for membership to the Nikon Professional User Scheme you must register at least two pieces of pro kit with at least one being a pro spec body.

My question is, can that body be a used one or does it have to be new?
I suspect that grey market would not also qualify

I have a 24-70 2.8 lens that qualifies and I am toying with the idea of a D600 which also qualifies (just). But I am also thinking maybe a used D700 - would that qualify still?

Thanks

Julian

Must not have been previously registered, it is designed to be for new equipment.

Anything in their pro line is fine, even a d300. I think even the d200 actually. There is a list in the site that says what counts.

But yes, they must be previously unregistered however I was told by nikon that someone can unregister a previously owned product and it can be re registered. My d700 was registered by the previous owner, but I couldn't get him do unregister it.

Thanks Gramps - thought that was the case:-)

Yes - I have re-registered lenses before and also de-registered ones I've sold:)

Wouldn't sweat on it. I've registered 4 pro items to date, still not got the pack. I got one issue of their mag ... in 4 months ... They have confirmed i am indeed an NPU, but no pack still after numerous emails.

If you buy a used item that has already been registered with them you can provide proof that you bought it. They will then accept it and register it.

I had an email from NPS (kind of different from NPU) recently that somebody was trying to register one of "my" cameras. I sold it a couple of years ago. They wouldn't let him register until I confirmed I'd sold it.

I got my D3 second hand and it was still registered to the previous owner so nikon emailed them to confirm it after I showed proof of my purchase they put it under my name and NPU activated.

Ah well, its old owner is still somewhere out there...:D

I have a D300 registered which was previously registered to someone else. You just have to ask Nikon to change the registration over: they contact the original person and if all os okay (i.e. it's not been stolen, etc) de-register it and let you register in your name.

There's a link on the website somewhere for initiating this process, which in my case took all of 24 hours.

D300 by any chance?

Learn something new every day :)

I registered my D300 i had along with i think it was either a 70-300 or 35mm and had then email through to be a professional user. There is some info on the Nikon site about what qualifies and how to register it in your name if it's been previously registered.

I've been an NPS member for a couple of years now. The admin side seem to be very laxed. My new card came about 8 months after the last one expired. I kept emailing/phoning them to make sure that I was still covered for the benefits that you get being a member.
My latest card expires 12/13, hopefully they will be better oraganised next time.

Kev.

I wouldn't count on it. There was a famous time a couple of years ago when they sent the diaries out in July. No, not 5 months early....

BTW NPS != NPU. Very different ;)

The admin there, though very friendly, can be a little too laid back. I too had a period where I didn't have a valid card, but as long as you've got your NPS number, I was able to get the same service.

Not NPS just NPU member card

Just got mine.... About 3 years after first registering!

Ditto, along with an apology for the delay! Never needed to use their helpline or any other services and yet to get a mag. I've been getting the e-newsletter for a couple of years.

I have been getting the mag okay.

I got my card too today also, just registered another pro body D800, is NPS worth even bothering with?

Looks like a bulk mail out ... got my NPU card and apology too.

me too, received NPU card yesterday after almost a year...:D

Still no card here. Weirdly I got one edition of their mag, just the one, in 5 months with no card :D
