Hi
Just a heads up from what I was told face to face last week by both Nikon and Canon.
Firstly, as of last week, the Nikon D40 and D40X are effectively discontinued. Nikon UK will not be supplying anymore stock - orders from Nikon Europe, put in place by Nikon Japan. Business's will be asked to run down stock and I was also told that the cash back has been extended to expedite the clearance of stock. It's still a good camera.
There is no news on a replacement however.
Moving onto the Canon 5D - discussed with Canon at the launch of the 450D in London on Thrusday. Canon advised all that there is NO replacement for the 5D due. Citing the 5D as a unique product on the market, Canon advised that it was still selling well and would need no repositioning or replacement.
So there you have some interesting news. Personally, I think that the Canon news is a smoke screen but as ever it is going to take a lot of effort for all Canon employees to stay quiet. Yes the 5D is sublime, but it is crying out for a Digic 3 make over now. So, my post from a few weeks back looks good. As before, the D300 moved the goal posts which has made Canon rethink its market - hence the 5D news.
I cant answer any questions as you now know as much as me.
Pete.
